Infrastructure – Lagos Lekki Corridor
Lagos State Government is building on the success of its towering infrastructure of its state, by yesterday signing the agreement for the development of Lekki-Epe International Airport. Many consider this as a significant step towards expanding on the state’s already existing but mostly dated infrastructure. With the existing Muritala Muhammed International Airport having reached full capacity, this new airport is surely a step in the right direction. Primarily because it will be a key enabler for development within that axis.
Here is a sneak peak into what is already ongoing in that axis in terms of #megaprojects and #infrastructure:
1) $1.5 billion Deep sea port – Completed in 2022
2) $20 billion Dangote refinery – Completed in 2024
3) $10 billion 700km Coastal highway – To be completed in 2026
4) $900 million Lekki International airport – To be completed in 2028
5) $1.5 billion 68km rail line project – To be completed in 2030
Collectively these projects will undoubtedly stimulate the creation of employment opportunities and attract substantial foreign direct investments (FDI) by multinational corporations (MNC) setting up a presence in the Lekki corridor of Lagos. Which will be largely attributed to the general ease of doing business, improved logistics, and transport infrastructure. This sheds a light on the less talked about aspect of #urbanisation which is the one powered by infrastructure #investment, fuelled by enhanced mobility and increased economic activities.
Interesting times ahead for projects in Africa’s most populated city. As they popularly say – “Eko o ni baje” meaning “Lagos will prevail”
